Canada Immigration Update 2025: Track Your PR and Citizenship Application in Real-Time with IRCC’s New Tool

By MyWorld Immigration | Updated October 2025

Canada’s immigration system just became more transparent for applicants. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced a major update to its online application processing times tool—allowing PR and citizenship applicants to check personalized, real-time estimates for their applications.

This new tool is a game-changer for anyone looking to immigrate to Canada or apply for Canadian citizenship, as it now provides tailored wait times based on your actual application submission date and your position in the IRCC processing queue.

If you’re applying or planning to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) through Express Entry, family sponsorship, or economic programs—or if you’re waiting on your citizenship application—this update is for you.

What’s New: Personalized IRCC Processing Times in 2025

Previously, IRCC displayed only average processing times that didn’t reflect when you applied or how many applications were ahead of yours.

Now, the updated IRCC processing tool offers:
• Customized estimates based on your application date
• The number of applicants ahead of you in the processing queue
• Total number of applications currently being reviewed
• Estimated processing times if you were to apply today

This is a significant move toward transparency in Canada’s immigration system and helps applicants manage their expectations more effectively.

How the Updated IRCC Tool Works

To access the personalized processing time, the IRCC tool will now ask you:

  1. Have you already submitted your application?
    Select Yes or No
  2. When did you apply?
Input the month and year of your application submission

Based on your answers, you’ll receive tailored information about your expected wait time and your place in line.

Example 1: You’ve Already Applied for PR or Citizenship

If you have already submitted your Canada PR or citizenship application, the tool will show:
• Estimated time left until a decision
• Number of applicants ahead of you
• Total number of pending applications
• Average wait time for those applying now

Fictional Example:
Sally applied through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) in May 2025. On October 16, she checks the tool and sees:
• Time left: 26 months
• Applicants ahead: Approximately 9,500
• Total in queue: About 13,100
• Current average processing time: 37 months

Example 2: You Haven’t Applied Yet

If you haven’t applied yet, the tool still provides useful insight:
• Estimated processing time if you apply today
• Total number of applications currently in progress

Fictional Example Continued:
Rachel, who hasn’t yet submitted her application under the same AIP program, checks the tool and sees:
• Estimated wait: 37 months
• Total in processing: 13,100 applicants

This information helps her decide when to apply for Canadian PR and manage her expectations.

Application Categories Covered by the Update

This real-time application status feature is currently available for the following immigration categories:

Economic Immigration Programs
• Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
• Express Entry:

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
    • Start-up Visa Program
    • Self-Employed Persons Program
    • Quebec Business Class

Family Sponsorship Programs
• Spouse or common-law partner (inside/outside Canada)
• Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)

Canadian Citizenship Applications
• Citizenship grants
• Proof of citizenship (citizenship certificates)

Other Categories
• Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) applications
• Protected persons and convention refugees (inside Canada)

Currently, child sponsorship and adopted child sponsorship are not included in this tool.

Temporary Visa Applicants: No Changes Yet

Applicants for temporary resident visas, such as study permits, work permits, or visitor visas, will still see general average wait times. The personalized queue system does not yet apply to these categories.

Why This Update is Important for Immigration Applicants

This change benefits thousands of prospective immigrants by offering:
• Greater clarity and reduced uncertainty
• More accurate planning for travel, employment, and settlement
• Better decision-making on when to apply for Canadian PR or citizenship

Whether you’re applying through Express Entry, family sponsorship, or economic immigration, this update helps ensure you’re not left in the dark.
