Federal Skilled Worker

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program, part of the Economic Class and managed by the Federal Skilled Worker system, is designed to bring skilled immigrants to Canada who can economically establish themselves within the country. The approximate processing time is six months once an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received.

Program Requirements

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Work Experience:

Have a minimum of one continuous year of full-time paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment in an occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, or B within the last 10 years.

Alternatively, qualify for arranged employment in Canada with a full-time, permanent job offer from a Canadian employer, supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or be exempt from the LMIA requirement.

Education:

Possess a Canadian diploma, certificate, or credential, and/or a foreign educational credential.

An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an IRCC-approved organization is required to demonstrate that the foreign credential is equivalent to a completed Canadian secondary or post-secondary educational credential.

Language Proficiency: Meet the minimum language proficiency of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or equivalent in either English or French.

Settlement Funds: Have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family for six months after arrival in Canada.

Steps to Permanent Residence

Once selected from the Federal Skilled Worker pool and issued an ITA, candidates must:

Medical Examinations: Undergo medical examinations to ensure they meet health standards.

Security Clearances: Obtain security clearances as part of the Canadian immigration application process.
